RAR
Although slightly compressed, RAAR format files are becoming a common way to conserve and save disk space, especially for Windows-like systems, thanks to programs like WinRAR.
RAR WinRAR's new Linux version, the famous Windows File Collector, allows GNU / Linux users to shrink and extract files in this format.
It integrates seamlessly with the desktop that you're using, adapting compression tools included by default on your system.
The only exception that you can run in RAR is the shareware (trial version), which is unusual for GNU / Linux. But there is no other option because there is no other way to create a RAR file in Linux at the moment.
